Tips for this CV
What separates a CV for this trade from a generic one.
- 01
Every achievement needs a channel and a metric: traffic, CPA, ROAS or conversion, with the period.
- 02
Name tools exactly (GA4, not “web analytics”).
- 03
Link a case study or portfolio in the header — in marketing it always gets checked.
07
What a digital marketing CV is
Short definition, ready to quote.
A digital marketing CV is the one or two page document used to apply for a digital marketing role in technology and data: it brings together the professional headline, the profile summary, experience with measurable results and the competencies the trade expects you to evidence, such as Technical and content SEO and Google Ads and Meta Ads. Unlike a generic CV, it is ordered around what the applicant tracking system and the hiring manager look for in a digital marketing: the words used in the advert and the numbers of the actual job.
08
Keywords and where to place them
Each term works best in a specific place in the document. Repeating them all at the end scores nothing.
| Keyword | Where to place it |
|---|---|
| SEO | In the professional headline |
| CPA | In the profile summary |
| Google Ads | Inside an achievement with a figure |
| GA4 | In the skills list |
| conversion rate | In training or certifications |
09
How this digital marketing CV gets through the filters
What the example above does right, point by point.
- The headline reads «Digital marketing specialist focused on SEO and paid media»: the job title (digital marketing) appears literally in the first line, not as a creative synonym.
- The trade's keywords —SEO, CPA, Google Ads— sit inside the experience and summary, where the filter reads them in context.
- Every achievement carries its figure. «Grew organic traffic 2.4x in 14 months through content and technical SEO» is the pattern to copy: volume, timeframe and result.
- Skills such as Technical and content SEO, Google Ads and Meta Ads, GA4 and Looker Studio are written as plain text, never as rating bars or stars, which no parser can read.
- The Berlin template is two-column with a linear reading order and rated ATS compatible, so the sections come out in order.

What hiring managers look for in a digital marketing
The three points that separate two candidates in this trade.
Your channel and the budget you managed
Digital marketing is several trades. Name the channel (SEO, PPC, paid social, email, content) and the monthly budget you ran: “£10k a month across search and paid social at 3.4 ROAS”.
Funnel metrics, not vanity metrics
CPA, ROAS, conversion rate, cost per lead and retention. Followers and impressions do not get hired; what reaches revenue does.
Stack and measurement ownership
Name the real stack: analytics, search console, dashboards, ads managers, CRM, email and SEO tooling, plus tag management. And say whether you set the tracking up or inherited it — it is a large difference in level.
11
Common mistakes on a digital marketing CV
The ones that repeat in this role, each with its fix.
- 01
Boasting about reach and followers
They are the sector's vanity metrics. A CV with impressions but no CPA or conversion says you have never been accountable for spend, which is exactly what is being bought.
- 02
Not stating the business model
Ecommerce, SaaS, lead generation and brand do not share a funnel. Without the model your numbers cannot be interpreted.
- 03
Writing “social media management” with no outcome
Posting is not an outcome. If you cannot give conversion, give the honest intermediate: qualified traffic growth, cost per lead, or subscribers acquired.
- 04
Skipping the technical side
Crawling, indexation, structured data, Core Web Vitals and conversion events are the hard, scarce part. If you own it, put it in the headline: it separates you from a pure content profile.
12
What a digital marketing earns
So you can tell whether an advert is at market rate before applying.
- Usual range
- Typically £30,000-£48,000 a year depending on channel and budget responsibility
- What moves the figure
- Paid with real budget ownership and technical SEO sit at the top; social management without spend sits at the bottom.
- Where the figure comes from
- Ranges observed in UK digital marketing adverts through 2026.
Frequently asked
Questions about a digital marketing CV
- What metrics can I use if figures are confidential?
- Relative ones: conversion uplift, CPA reduction, organic traffic or lead growth. Never absolute revenue, client budgets or anything that identifies an advertiser.
- Specialist or generalist?
- Small companies hire generalists; large companies and agencies hire by channel. Point the headline at one and order achievements around the channel in the advert.
- Do platform certifications help?
- As a baseline, and some agencies need them for partner status, but they do not replace a campaign with results. Put them at the end with the year.
- Should I link a portfolio?
- Yes, with two or three short cases: situation, what you did, result with a metric. It is the fastest way to show judgement without revealing client data.
