Tips for this CV

What separates a CV for this trade from a generic one.

  1. 01

Put your dispensing qualification with the year and awarding body in the first line.

  2. 02

Name the patient management system you use — it's the most common advert filter.

  3. 03

Give customers served per day and the pharmacy type (community, retail, hospital).

07

What a pharmacy assistant CV is

Short definition, ready to quote.

A pharmacy assistant CV is the one or two page document used to apply for a pharmacy assistant role in healthcare and care: it brings together the professional headline, the profile summary, experience with measurable results and the competencies the trade expects you to evidence, such as Dispensing systems and Stock ordering and goods-in. Unlike a generic CV, it is ordered around what the applicant tracking system and the hiring manager look for in a pharmacy assistant: the words used in the advert and the numbers of the actual job.

08

Keywords and where to place them

Each term works best in a specific place in the document. Repeating them all at the end scores nothing.

09

How this pharmacy assistant CV gets through the filters

What the example above does right, point by point.

  • The headline reads «NVQ-qualified pharmacy assistant, community and retail pharmacy»: the job title (pharmacy assistant) appears literally in the first line, not as a creative synonym.
  • The trade's keywords —pharmacy assistant, dispensing, electronic prescriptions— sit inside the experience and summary, where the filter reads them in context.
  • Every achievement carries its figure. «Served an average of 130 customers a day at the counter and on healthcare advice» is the pattern to copy: volume, timeframe and result.
  • Skills such as Dispensing systems, Stock ordering and goods-in, Expiry and batch control are written as plain text, never as rating bars or stars, which no parser can read.
  • The Dublin template is single-column and rated ATS verified, so the sections come out in order.

10

What hiring managers look for in a pharmacy assistant

The three points that separate two candidates in this trade.

Dispensing accuracy and patient contact

The job lives at the counter: assembling prescriptions accurately, handing out under supervision, over-the-counter advice and referring to the pharmacist. Give the volume: items dispensed per day or patients served.

Stock, expiry dates and controlled drugs

The invisible work that keeps a pharmacy legal: wholesaler orders, goods-in with batch and expiry checks, returns, robot or bin locations and the controlled drugs register. Give the number of lines you handled.

Patient medication records system

Name the PMR system (ProScript, Titan, Cegedim, EMIS) and whether you worked with EPS. It is the keyword a pharmacy manager screens for, because it decides whether you need training.

11

Common mistakes on a pharmacy assistant CV

The ones that repeat in this role, each with its fix.

  1. 01

Presenting yourself as a shop assistant

A pharmacy is not a shop: there is regulation, traceability and clinical advice. A CV with no mention of EPS, batch numbers, expiry checks or CDs reads as retail and loses its healthcare value.

  2. 02

    Leaving out the NVQ level

Dispensing roles expect an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills, and technician roles a Level 3 with GPhC registration. Without that line the manager cannot assess the application at all.

  3. 03

    Ignoring the healthcare counter

A large share of pharmacy margin sits in OTC, dermatology and nutrition. Advice and linked sales in those categories, with an average transaction value, is a direct commercial argument.

  4. 04

Not saying what kind of pharmacy it was

A rural pharmacy, a high-street branch and a large store with a robot run differently. State the location, team size and whether there was a dispensing robot or a compliance-aid service.

12

What a pharmacy assistant earns

So you can tell whether an advert is at market rate before applying.

Usual range
Typically £11.44-£13.50 an hour for a dispenser; registered pharmacy technicians sit above that band
What moves the figure
GPhC-registered technician roles and hospital bands pay above community pharmacy, and weekend or late-night rotas add premiums.
Where the figure comes from
Ranges observed in UK pharmacy adverts through 2026.

Frequently asked

Questions about a pharmacy assistant CV

What qualification do I need?
An NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Service Skills for a dispenser, and a Level 3 plus GPhC registration to call yourself a pharmacy technician. Write the level, the awarding body and the year.
Can I start without pharmacy experience?
Yes — many branches hire counter assistants and fund the NVQ. In that case the CV rests on retail accuracy, cash handling, confidentiality and any healthcare or care experience.
Should I mention controlled drugs?
If you handled them, yes: it involves the CD register, safe custody and strict recording. It is a legal responsibility very few CVs mention, so it stands out immediately.
Does supermarket healthcare counter experience count?
It covers OTC advice and linked selling, but not dispensing. Say clearly which part you have and which you do not: in a regulated sector that gets verified on day one.
